Blue Ridge Educational Center
Unlocking Learning Potential

Blue Ridge Educational Center is a private day school for students with disabilities, licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia (view our license). BREC provides a structured, yet creative and flexible learning environment in Front Royal where students can enhance their academic skills and pursue their educational goals. We offer a small, nurturing environment serving students with a wide range of needs and abilities. We usually serve approximately twelve students in our day program on a full or part-time basis.

Day Educational Program

Our day educational program provides instruction for students age 12-21. Each student's course of study is designed around his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Instructional Plan (IIP) goals, the Virginia Standards of Learning, and/or the curriculum taught in his or her home public school. Our teachers and Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) counselors are skilled at building therapeutic relationships with their students, helping students develop positive attitudes toward school, and encouraging learning through repeated academic success.

  • We provide academic and therapeutic services as defined by the IEP/IIP. Individualized instruction is based on the strengths, needs, and learning styles of each student.
  • Our classrooms are grouped by instructional levels. Our instruction is conducted individually or in small groups.
  • Our staff:student ratio is 1:3 on average.
  • In addition to academic services, students participate in our Life Skills and Arts programs, designed to provide the knowledge and skills students will need when they exit the school system.

Our Parent-Student Handbook and Program of Studies describe our programs in more detail.

We offer rolling enrollment; please contact us for information.

We work with homeschooling students who desire full-time or part-time assistance with their studies in a small-group setting. Students can pursue a diploma from a variety of accredited programs through the Center. We assist students in selecting the most suitable program for their needs and provide instruction and/or tutoring at whatever level is needed.

Our fees are based on the schedule chosen by the parents, student and staff. A fee schedule is available upon request.

We provide after-school tutoring by appointment in most subjects for students enrolled in public or private schools.

Summer School

We are open all year, offering summer school courses for credit.
